I just went back and re-read and can confirm that despite booze, this is actually a working recipe for meatloaf. In retrospect I would also recommend breaking from the original Joy of Cooking instructions by using a smaller loaf pan and putting the ketchup on top, because it’s not exactly going to form a delicious ketchup crust if it’s in the bottom of the pan, regardless of the original authors’ intentions.
But yeah, that’s meatloaf. It’s amazing how tasty it is with the fresh ingredients.
